Stanford University is an ideal location for a conference. The campus is situated in the heart of the Silicon Valley, only 25 miles from San Francisco. Sightseeing opportunities on campus include: Stanford's landmark Hoover Tower with an observation deck offers superb views of both Stanford and the surrounding area; the Cantor Center for Visual Arts, which features diverse works of art, ranging from Renaissance paintings to African masks to the world's largest collection (outside of the Paris's Musée) of Rodin's renowned bronze sculptures; and Memorial Church, which is the architectural centerpiece of the Main Quad and a landmark widely recognized as an emblem of the University.
Additionally, the surrounding area has many opportunities for recreation, shopping and sightseeing. The natural environment of Stanford and the Bay Area provides countless opportunities for hiking, biking, jogging, and other outdoor activities. Located just minutes from campus is downtown Palo Alto, noted for tree-lined streets, charming restaurants and unique shops that appeal to all ages. Adjacent to the University is the open-air Stanford Shopping Center. The shopping center includes a European-style "street market", Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom's, and a host of specialty shops and restaurants.
